Welcome to Refuge Church

Church History

​

Refuge Church, also known as Iglesia Refugio, was founded with a clear mission: to be a place of hope, healing, and transformation for individuals from all walks of life. What began as a small, prayerful gathering in August 2019 officially became incorporated as Refuge Church, Inc. in 2020 and established its permanent home at 6116 Myrtle Avenue in Glendale, NY. Since then, we’ve grown into a thriving bilingual community rooted in biblical truth and the power of the Holy Spirit.

Under the leadership of Pastor David Paniagua and his wife Rut Paniagua, the church has steadily grown, not just in number, but in depth of impact. From the very beginning, the heart of the church has been to reach the overlooked, welcome the curious, and disciple new believers, many of whom found Christ for the first time within our walls.​

 

Over the years, Refuge Church has expanded its ministry offerings to include a vibrant children’s program, men’s and women’s ministries, mental health support, and practical outreach initiatives like food and clothing drives. Today, Refuge Church continues to grow as a diverse and dynamic body of believers. With bilingual services, community events, and an expanding digital presence, we remain committed to being a spiritual refuge for those seeking grace, truth, and a new beginning.

Our mission is...

to help people experience Christ rather than man’s creation of religion, so they can grow strong in Christ and take the Christ experience to the world. Reaching people for Christ, grow them strong in Christ so they can go out and make a difference for Christ in the world.

What We Believe

We believe that the Bible is the Word of God, that He loves you unconditionally and has a plan and a purpose for your life.

The Bible

  • We believe that the Bible is the Word of God, divinely inspired; that it contains no errors in the original manuscripts and preserved by God for us; that it is authoritative for the church and each of us for every age.

God

  • We believe that God exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. These three are one God.

  • We believe God created the universe by His Power and Word.

  • We believe that God is all knowing, all powerful and ever present.

Jesus

  • We believe Jesus Christ was sent by God the Father into the world to save sinners.

  • We believe that Jesus Christ was virgin born, sinless in life and mighty in words and deeds.

  • We believe Jesus was both God and man, that He was crucified for our sins, and was bodily raised from the dead. He then ascended to His Father’s side where He is head of the church and intercedes for believers.

  • We believe Jesus Christ is coming again personally, visibly and bodily to reign as Lord.
